Art 21 Michael Ray Charles

Anthony Paredes

Michael Ray Charles is definitely a controversial artist. He always likes to look at the past for some inspiration in his art work. He uses black face as his many reference to drawing. He doesn't want to come off as a racist, but he want to show the us what the face can represent. For him the face can represent a man or woman of any color. He also a penny in his artwork because it has the face of Abraham Lincoln. The reason he picks a penny is because of Abraham Lincoln, the reason being that he was the president at the time slavery is ending. He want to show that even dough slavery ended there is still question that have never been answer. He also tries to show the difference between how the art world compare them. He use a toy to show off difference between a black and white person. He says that figure Tarzan shows off someone who is prideful and clam compare to the other figure that shows off angry or beast like figure.
